by Bill Anderton

The live conference call for"History, Ethos and Polity of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)" with Dr. Jerry Gladson will be on July 11, 2017. It will start at 6:00 pm Central Time and ends approximately at 7:00 pm.

Please note that these are Central Time Zone times! Please adjust for your local time zone as needed.

Instructions and the access code for the call can be found in the Virtual Classroom. See the "Live Audio Conference Call" button in the sidebar on the right side of most pages in the Virtual Classroom. The direct link to this page is https://www.transformingthechurch.org/JG-01_audio_conference_calls

However, access is simple.

Dial the Audio Access Telephone Number for the TeleWorship Bridge at 1-(214) 699-5100 (from anywhere.)

You will then hear the prompts of our auto-attendant.

When prompted please enter your Conference ID and press the # key.

The Conference ID for this call is 2002000 (two, double-zero, two, triple-zero.)

I will open the conference bridge about 20 minutes before the starting time of the class and be there to greet any early arrivals. You're welcome to enter the class early and chat with your classmates until the start of the class. Opening the bridge early gives everybody a chance to get dialed in and settled in before the start of the call.

I will also be online in the Class Forum to respond quickly to any last-minute questions or needs.

Please be on the call before the start of the class so we can start promptly 6:00 pm CDT.

Note for VoIP and Certain Cell Phone Users

For the first call, I recommend that you dial in any time before the scheduled call to make sure your telephone can connect to our bridge.

Please note that all land-line telephones, almost all cell phones and certain VoIP services should have no problems at all. However, some VoIP telephone services and a few wireless carriers use only in-band signaling and over-compress the DTMF tones used to signal the bridge with your Conference ID and other command signals. Please not that this is not a standards-compliant configuration by these providers. The resulting garbled tones may not be recognized by our bridge. If you use one of these services, a quick test call is recommended. If you call early before the call, nobody will be on the call to conference with, but you will be able to enter the Conference ID and be placed into the bridge. If successful, you will hear a message that says, "The conference will begin when the host arrives." If you hear this message, you are in the bridge and everything is okay with your VoIP service. You can then hang up your test call.

If the codes above don't allow you to enter the bridge, it indicates your phone service uses the non-compliant configuration for in-band signaling and over-compresses the DTMF signaling tones. It is recommended that you use another phone and service to connect to the scheduled conference call. You can also contact your telephone service provider about the problem and they may have a solution or work-around. Tell them that the DTMF tones are garbled and not being recognized. For carriers/providers with this problem, it will be a common issue they likely will have heard before.
