Audio Lectures - Common Lectionary

Students will be engaged in new ways with new insights as they come around the "radio-styled" lectures with Rick and hear his depth of understanding and explanation of the texts.  Preachers will find stimulation for study, hearing a living commentary on the First Testament while reflecting on their own familiarity with the Gospel lections from Matthew (and John as we move into Easter).  Adult learners will find that Rick's teaching reinforces  their own commitment to life-long learning and encourages them to draw closer to the written Word of God.  And the Church, particularly when study groups join together to listen to Rick and share with one another their own understandings and questions, will find new places of renewed vision and vitality.

Personal Finance:
Making More with What You Have

This course explores the relationship between Paul’s question to Timothy “How can a person manage God’s Church if he/she cannot manage his/her own household?” and ten economic principles to guide you in building the capacity for generosity. The core activities center around both constructing a household budget and examining our relationship with money. Participants will gain a biblical foundation for why personal finance matters in the life of an individual (or family system) as well as acquiring tools that will lower anxiety and increase the capacity for generosity. The material lends itself well to a small group study and serves as a primer for more in-depth conversations about money and society. The material is presented in three sessions can be presented in a group setting as either a three part study or be completed in a single session of approximately two and half hours.

Every Congregation Needs a Little Conflict

This course seeks to help congregational leaders develop the capacity to handle healthy conflict, and to know what to do when the periodic unhealthy conflict occurs. A clear assessment is provided of the seven intensities of conflict, strategies and tactics for engaging these intensities, and when and how to seek outside assistance. Creating a Culture of Generosity

A Biblical, Theological, and Best Practice View of Stewardship for the Pastor and Local Congregation

This course delivers in five sessions an exploration of stewardship as a spiritual discipline. It examines the broad biblical understandings and theological underpinnings that proclaim that God is a God of abundance, not a God of scarcity. The first two elements of the curriculum provide a foundation for seeing stewardship as a whole life response to the generosity of God. In the third session, students will discover why the conversation about generosity is so vital to the success of our mission; and begin to examine the best practices that encourage the practice of generosity. Do you have a “live the vision” or a “pay the bills” mentality? The fourth portion of this learning seminar focuses on policy and further defines practical methods that help a congregation achieve its financial goals. In the final experience, students will learn how to build the capacity for their own generosity and how to teach this to others. The only reason the church has a conversation about money is to resource its mission and ministry.
