Discount For Late Registration For
Rick Lowery's Advent Course

by Bill Anderton

"Advent: Preaching Texts from the Hebrew Bible and Gospels" by Dr. Rick Lowery, Ph.D. is off to a great start.

Interestingly, we're still registering lots of new students for the class in late registration! We are getting new students into the class almost every day, even 12 days after the start of the class!

Currently, as I write this, one-third of the total number of students in this course registered AFTER the start of the class and more are coming in daily; even now! We have never before had this many late registrations for a course. This is a significant number and we have taken note of it.

The shear number of registrations and the broad geographic distribution of students indicate this course is filling a broad need. The large number of late registrations also indicate this class still has a significant appeal even after the class has started.

Late-Registration Partial Scholarship

In other words, it is not too late to join this class. "Advent: Preaching Texts from the Hebrew Bible and Gospels" now has a partial scholarship available for those new students who would like to take the last half of the class and benefit from all of the content provided by the course.

From today and for the remainder of the Advent season, anyone who registers late for this class AND uses the Scholarship Code (shown below), will receive a $30 discount off the price of the course for the remaining session.

All the registrant has to do is enter the Scholarship Code into the indicated spot on the online order form. At checkout, the $79.99 price of the course will be discounted by $30.00 to be $49.99.

The Scholarship Code is "ADVENT" (case sensitive.)

This partial scholarship is available to any new student. It will be honored throughout the remainder of the Advent season from any new student who uses this code in a new registration.

The Last Half of the Course Will Have a Great Deal of Value

First, all five of the video-on-demand sessions - a total of three and a half hours of high-quality video - will always be available for viewing. These videos alone will be of value (and worth the price of admission) to those entering the class for the first time.

Second, all of the past live conference calls are recorded and available for catching up on the past sessions.

Third, the Class Forum is always available for catching up with questions on past video-on-demand or live conference call sessions. It is never to late for new questions and continued discussions of earlier sessions.

About This Course

“The liturgical season of Advent celebrates Christ’s vision of the Kingdom of God erupting in our very midst. It prepares us and calls us to recognize the signs of God’s in-breaking reign of justice and peace in this broken and confused world,” says Dr. Rick Lowery.

If that summary alone does not sufficiently capture your curiosity, your commitment to lead, and your compassion for God’s creation and creatures, then take a look at what this course will provide as you prepare for the preaching opportunities of Advent this year.

This course takes an in-depth look at this year's lectionary texts for Advent from the Hebrew Bible and asks how they relate to the gospel texts from Luke. Lectures provide an overview of the historical context of the biblical passages and some of the cultural and economic influences that shaped them. Conversations explore sermon ideas and how the biblical texts relate to the weekly themes of advent.

This course is taught by Dr. Rick Lowery. Ph.D. with additional commentary and discussion by Linda McCrae, Senior Pastor of Central Christian Church of Indianapolis (Disciples of Christ.)

Online Distance Learning Course

As with all of our distance learning courses, participants can join the Virtual Classroom for this course from anywhere with nothing more than a browser and a broadband Internet connection.

The course consists of five 40-minute high-definition video-on-demand sessions and five 60-minute live online discussions with Dr. Lowery that will be paced throughout the sermon preparation period for the Advent season. Using TransformingTheChurch.org’s “Watch – Discuss – Do!” approach to online education, each week online students will view one video-on-demand session and participate in one fully-interactive live online session with Dr. Lowery.

For this class, there will NOT be a late registration deadline. The course will be kept open for late arrivals all during Advent. Late arriving students may miss one or more or the interactive sessions. However, the video-on-demand sessions, the interactive features of the Virtual Classroom (the Class Forum for discussions, etc.) and recordings of the interactive conference calls will still be available to all participants, including late-arriving students.
